Overview
One payment page to rule them all
Businesses want the quickest way to collect payments virtually. Our goal was to create a payment page that best fit the needs of over 20,000 businesses. Over the course of 3 months, I landed on an updated online payment form that has been used to pay thousands of invoices every week.
Problem
The B2B payments problem
Normally, online payments can be as simple as seeing what a payment is for and paying the amount. However, when it comes to B2B, vendors can potentially have multiple open invoices. Yet the pre-existing online payment form only allowed vendors to generate links for individual invoices.

This workflow was not built for scale. As the number of invoices increased, so did the work for both the vendor and the purchaser.
Solution
Pay one or pay them all
The fundamental change to the process was the ability to select specific invoices to request payment for. Instead of having to send them individually, we allowed merchants to select one, multiple, or all invoices for payment requests. On the buyer’s end, they would be able to see a list of these invoices and pay any or all invoices in a single form. This reduced the amount of steps to resolve outstanding sales on both ends.

Changes
Design Decisions
Navigation
Tab Troubles
The initial thought was to use tabs to separate single invoice payments from multi-invoice payments. However, user testing showed that participants were confused by this separation.

A/B Testing
Cards vs. Tables
Two layouts were created to determine how individual invoices should be displayed. User testing showed an overwhelming preference for the table layout. 18 out of 22 participants completed tasks more efficiently with the tables.
UI
Badges
Accounts often have multiple outstanding invoices. Badges were utilized to display due dates and their relative urgency to allow quick scanning of information.

Results
The new online payment form launched in June 2022. Customers reported that their DSO (Days Sales Outstanding) decreased from an average of 45 days to 5 days.
Currently, EBizCharge serves over 400,000 customers with the payment form as it’s most popular feature.
